One Week to save Kent's Climate Emergency Declaration

11 Sep 2025

Reform councillors want to abandon Kent's commitment to tackling climate change - and we need your help to stop them.

Next Thursday (18 September), Reform councillors will vote on Agenda Item 13: Rescinding the KCC Climate Emergency Declaration

The motion is buried on page 153 of the Meeting Agenda

This would be a huge step backwards for our county.

Why this matters:

  • It ignores overwhelming scientific evidence about climate change
  • It sends the message that Kent doesn't care about protecting our environment
  • It could harm local renewable energy projects and green jobs
  • It lets down young people who are passionate about their future

What Kent has achieved so far: Since declaring a climate emergency, Kent has supported innovation, backed local renewable energy projects, and inspired young people to get involved in environmental issues. We shouldn't throw this progress away.

Take Action Now

Write to your local county councillor and ask them to vote against this motion. You can find your councillor and their contact details here.

Keep your message respectful but clear - ask them to:

  • Vote against scrapping the Climate Emergency declaration
  • Continue supporting Kent's environmental commitments
  • Think about the future we're leaving for our children

Every voice matters. The more residents that express their feelings, the better chance we have of preventing this calculated marginalising of the climate crisis.

Climate change affects us all, and Kent must continue playing its part in tackling this global challenge.
