What do the different councils actually do?

It should be noted that the councils are not responsible for things like immigration, policing, foreign aid, the NHS, or international trade deals. That's the remit of Parliament.
What does Thanet District Council (TDC) do?
TDC is primarily responsible for planning permission, licensing, and council tax.

While, yes, TDC is primarily responsible for planning permission, licensing, and council tax, it is a bit more complicated than that.
In addition to planning, licenses, and council tax, the district council handles car parks, housing, parks, street cleaning, and more.

Lib Dems Secure Support for Kent Vaccination Boost
A Liberal Democrat motion seeking to boost the cross-Kent uptake of vaccinations to safeguard the health of children was moved at the Kent County Council meeting of 18th September and was passed with the unanimous support of the 73 councillors voting.

Council rescinds climate change emergency declaration
Despite opposition from the Lib Dems, Greens, Labour and most remaining Conservatives, the Reform administration of Kent County Council voted to rescind its declaration of a climate emergency saying they are "sceptical of anthropogenic climate change".
