Deborah Holmes
Spokesperson for Birchington and Rural
Deborah Holmes
A long-time resident of Thanet, over the decades, she has witnessed the many years of local government neglect that stifled the district, and as a young person, lived through the consequences that has on young people.
After pursuing varied careers in design, aviation, and film, Deborah now runs a small restoration business in Kent, and is a powerful advocate for sustainable local enterprises, and is a staunch believer in giving young people the chances they need to learn and thrive.
Brexit was a key moment, and is the reason why she now works for the Liberal Democrats, as the moral stances the party has made, regardless of cost, match her own modern Christian beliefs.
As a champion of the LGBTQ+ community, she ran an event in Canterbury for nearly a decade, that gave a safe space for people in the area, at a time when phobic hatred in the city made running such an event difficult.
An avid local history enthusiast, Deborah in her spare time enjoys preserving local history, and raising awareness to help connect people to the rich local heritage around them. She wants to see our beloved Manston airport reopened to give young people better quality employment.
On the Political front, she is forthright about protecting the environment, and opposing overdevelopment unless for social housing. But a central moral objective, she also seeks to combat political misinformation and hatred.
