Thanet deserved better than Reform's Daniel Taylor
For nearly ten months now, the residents of Cliftonville have been throwing away hard earned taxes, on an elected representative that deceived them from the start.
Reform UK relentlessly sold Taylor to Cliftonville as a ‘devoted family man’ without bothering to properly look into his background. But as we all know now, this is no isolated incident.
When authoritarianism, extremism, and misogyny are seen as qualities for a political candidate its no surprise that the net result is a string of poor quality individuals that simply waste democracy. Reform UK’s central spine policies peddle in denial, deceit, and deflection, and in such a space, there can never exist the protections and openness needed to give the public honest representatives.
Taylor is no special case, he is simply one of an army of abusers who bring misery to women and children across the country every minute of every day. What empowers people like him, is the total lack of structural policy to stop his kind of abuse. In fact, his conviction is only thanks to legislation that in the entire history of the world, has only just been put into law recently.
And Reform UK wants to tear up legal protections.
Thanet voted for seven Reform Councillors at county level, but ten months in, has only five.
Another lost councillor, (Amelia Randall) after betraying the people of Thanet to support UKIP, (a failed party that bought so much damage to Thanet), is now busy whipping up racial hatred across the UK, another disgraceful waste of democratic process.
Reform UK’s policies are a danger to the vulnerable. Many of it's elected representatives and candidates alike admire Donald Trump, who is a self admitted sex offender, and open misogynist. They idolise Elon Musk, a man who runs a platform that creates indecent images of children.
If you have children, we ask you to really carefully consider what our country under Reform UK would really be like? In the 1950’s wife beating was commonplace, sexual violence and abuse normalised, and young people had very few protections against this.
If you want a decent world for your children, please consider voting for decent parties that yield decent people as decent candidates.
